The College of Architecture at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites qualified individuals to apply for full-time, nine-month, tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2010, pending budget approval.  The College of Architecture offers fully accredited degrees in Architecture (M.Arch) and Interior Design (BSIntDes), with developing programs in Construction Science and Management (BSCSM) and Urban and Regional Planning (MSURP). With about 1,000 undergraduates and 85 graduate students, the College has 21 full-time faculty as well as many adjunct faculty drawn from the local design and construction community. It is located in downtown San Antonio, one of America's oldest and most vibrant urban environments where design, construction and research find unique topics of inquiry. The College's faculty is committed to education, and to building an institution that fosters intellectual excellence and collegiality.

 

Construction Science and Management:  Assistant Professor

Responsibilities include developing and teaching a range of required courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  In addition, candidates ought to be able to develop opportunities for students to gain experience (competition teams, internship programs, etc.), have a clear research agenda, and be able to participate in the further development of the CSM program.  Candidates must possess either a Masters degree in Construction related disciplines with at least 3 years of construction management experience, or a Ph.D. in Construction or a related discipline.  Preferred qualifications include experience and research in construction estimating/planning/scheduling, project delivery systems, integrated project management and computer/technology applications in construction management.

 

General Requirements / Preferences:  All positions are open at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.  Candidates must have completed all requirements for the Master's Degree by the date of hire or -- if ABD -- complete their PhD within one year of the date of hire. Responsibilities for all positions include: 1) teaching seminars, lecture classes and/or studios in the position applied for, 2) conducting scholarly research and/or design-practice at a level that promises future recognition, and 3) making service contributions to the educational institution.  Courses offered either at the UTSA Downtown Campus or the Main Campus and occasionally at night.

2) narrative statement:  describe in 1 to 2 pages the qualifications for the position, areas of expertise, plans for future research/creative practice, and pedagogical approach

3) curriculum vita:  if currently working towards a terminal degree, please give evidence of graduate hours completed

4) list of three references:  include all contact information

5) sample publications or a 15- to 20-page non-returnable portfolio:  provide work that is representative of research/creative practice, teaching ability, and some student work.
