About New School of Architecture & Design:
New School of Architecture and Design (NSAD), founded in 1980, is fully accredited by the National Architecture Accrediting Board and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. The school, with more than 600 students, offers degree (Bachelors and Masters) in architecture, digital media, and construction & facilities management. NSAD has a $12M operating budget and a staff of just over 100. NSAD is a vibrant and fun place to work. In January 2010 the undergraduate Construction Management program was launched. The Program Chair will lead the development of the program and build the department. The long term goals are to achieve programmatic accreditation and to have 250-300 students enrolled in the program. The Construction Management program has launched as a Bachelors program but will extend to Masters level with on campus and on-line versions.
The Position:
The Chair will provide institutional and programmatic leadership for the Construction Management department, including curriculum development and delivery, course scheduling, faculty recruitment and development, student counseling and guidance, advice and counsel regarding career opportunities and relationships with professional organizations. The Chair establishes departmental policy consistent with School operations communicates and maintains standards of educational quality, manages enrollments to achieve financial goals and fosters professional development of faculty, staff and students in the unit. He/she Supervises and coordinates the work of level coordinators and advisors.
Qualifications:
Master's degree; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
· Administrative experience in Construction Management Program.
· Teaching and/or training experience in the discipline
· Knowledge and understanding of the discipline, its curriculum, the training needs assessment principles, processes, and techniques.
· Knowledge of relevant curriculum requirements, educational standards and regulatory policies in area of expertise.
· Knowledge and understanding of problem-based learning as an educational methodology.
· Ability to observe and assess content and delivery of curriculum against established standards.
· Ability to guide and lead professional educators in the establishment of curriculum and appropriate teaching concepts, approaches, and methodology.
· Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
· Knowledge of relevant teaching systems, techniques, equipment, materials, and aids.
