Assistant Professor/Instructor

Construction Management

 Full time faculty position in Construction Management program starting August 2010. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in Construction Management (such as Construction Materials, Construction Estimating, Construction Safety and/or Construction Management) with special emphasis on Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Green Building (LEED). Other duties include program assessment and strategic planning, student advising and mentoring, commitment to public engagement, scholarly activities commensurate with rank, service to the university and profession, and duties as assigned by the department head. Substantial start-up funds are available for scholarship/research activities.

 Tenure track (assistant professor rank) appointment requires an earned doctorate in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field plus at least three years of US construction management experience. ABDs will be considered with evidence of degree completion by August 2010. Renewable multi-year term (instructor rank) appointment requires a master’s degree in the fields noted above plus at least five years of US construction management experience. All candidates must: have documented field experience drawn from areas of commercial, heavy/highway, and/or industrial construction; show evidence of a commitment to teaching courses in construction management with an emphasis on applied applications; show evidence of proficiency in using multimedia instructional technologies and familiarity with web-based course management systems to deliver lessons and courses; demonstrate effective communication skills in spoken and written English; show evidence of computer proficiency and software application in construction management; demonstrate commitment to excellence in research/scholarship and service; and demonstrate strong commitment to develop partnerships with local and national construction related businesses and organizations. Pre-employment background checks are required.

 A record of academic scholarship and grant writing skills necessary for obtaining external funding support for the construction program is highly desired. Professional certification such as Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) or Professional Engineering (PE) registration is also highly desired. Pre-employment background checks are required. Visit http://www.uni.edu/indtech for further information.
