Assistant Professor of Construction Management

Job Summary
The Department of Technology at Illinois State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position in Construction Management at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 16, 2025.

• A successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the Construction Management program. The normal teaching load is nine credit hours per semester (3 courses).
• Develop a focused agenda of scholarship and grantsmanship appropriate to the discipline and disseminate through peer reviewed venues.
• Work closely with faculty and students to develop research skills.
• Work closely with faculty and staff to develop relationships with industry and external funding for program initiatives.
• Participate in the re-accreditation process and tracking student learning outcomes assessments.

Additional Information
The Construction Management (CM) Program serves around 250 undergraduate students by providing hands-on experience in labs and class projects and is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The CM program has strong support from the construction industry through the CM industry partnership and student chapters of professional organizations such as AGC, ASC, MCA, NECA, ACI, and NAHB. The support from the construction industry includes opportunities for faculty’s research and professional development as well as students’ activities such as student competitions, field trips, and job placement.

The Department of Technology (TEC) has built a strong reputation for scholarly work in the field of innovative construction materials, sustainable construction, VR in industrial automation, sustainable & renewable energy, technology & engineering education, quality management & analytics, and project management. Annually serving over 600 students, the faculty and staff are dedicated to preparing individuals for leadership positions as management-oriented technology professionals in six undergraduate programs and three areas of graduate study. Undergraduate majors include programs in Computer Systems Technology, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Graphic Communications Technology, Sustainable & Renewable Energy, and Technology & Engineering Education. The Department has a graduate student enrollment of approximately 80 students and offers programs in Project Management, Quality Management and Analytics, and STEM Education and Leadership. The Department consists of 26 FTE faculty members, including tenured, tenure-track, full-time, and part-time instructors. Required Qualifications
1) Earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or closely related field. Exceptional A.B.D. candidates will also be considered with an expected completion of their doctoral degree before August 16, 2025.
2) One or more years of experience in research and/or industry in one of the following areas: Estimating, Scheduling, MEP, Surveying, Construction Methods, and other relevant construction management topics.
3) Evidence of conducting research in an area related to Construction Management.
4) For teaching positions, state law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
