Position Description

The Haskell & Irene Lemon Construction Science (CNS) Division at the University of Oklahoma’s (OU) Gibbs College of Architecture (GCA) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor OR tenured or tenure-track associate professor, 9-month position, beginning in August 2026. There is the potential for a January 2026 start for candidates who may be interested. Based in Norman, a lively college town within the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, which was recently ranked the “No. 1 Best Big City to Live In” by U.S. News & World Report, the Construction Science Division seeks faculty to help shape the future of construction education and practice. This position is part of OU’s university-wide trajectory to join the nation’s top public research institutions, fueled by growth in faculty excellence, research innovation, and cross-sector partnerships.

 

What We’re Looking For

The Division seeks to hire a new faculty member to add to our award-winning team and support our growing enrollments. The new faculty member will advance teaching and research excellence in areas such as transportation (heavy civil construction), construction leadership, and/or construction innovation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the Division. The position offers the following notable opportunities:

• Work with inspired leadership and nationally recognized faculty committed to creative and innovative approaches to construction education,
• Develop teaching and research collaborations across the College that include nationally recognized architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and regional and city planning disciplines.
• Benefit from professional development support from the Haskell & Irene Lemon Endowment and GCA, and
• Contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Planning, Design, and Construction degree.

Established in 1983, the CNS Division boasts a significant endowment that supports strong leadership, a cadre of passionate and impactful faculty, and a pattern of student success in regional, national, and international competitions. The GCA’s history in helping develop the design+build movement continues today through the program’s balanced approach towards entrepreneurship and hands-on collaborations. Required qualifications:

• Ph.D. in construction or a related field.
  • Applicants with ABD status will be considered if the requirement for a Ph.D. will be completed during the first year of employment, only for applicants as a tenure-track assistant professor
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in the design and construction industry
• Demonstrated expertise related to the CNS curriculum and ability to teach courses in more than one construction topic
• Track record of peer-reviewed publications as first or second author
• Potential to develop an externally funded research agenda in support of CNS Division and GCA goals
