Assistant Professor of Practice

Principal Duties: The School of Construction Management Technology at Purdue University is seeking to fill a full-time, 9 month (1.0 FTE) academic year contract appointment, Professor of Practice faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice. (Position title will be dependent on experience.)

In a Professor of Practice faculty position, the candidate will be expected to have a primary assignment which focuses on instruction and industry engagement, and a secondary role in supporting construction related research. The successful candidate will develop and foster student, as well as industry, relationships/connections.  

The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses as well as participate and integrate their professional experience with construction-related associations, industry activities, service and engagement, and participate in scholarly activities of engagement and learning.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will possess a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, or related field. Successful candidates will have documented, full-time construction experience which must include a minimum of 4 years in the U.S. construction industry. The education requirement must be completed prior to the start date of the appointment.

The successful applicant will have expertise in some (but not necessarily all) of the following core course areas: estimating, scheduling, field supervision, surveying/building layout, project management, company management, contracts/legal, risk management, safety, construction documentation, and AEC communications.

The School: The School of Construction Management Technology (SCMT) is celebrating 50 years of construction education excellence and Purdue University was recently ranked #5 among public institutions   in the U.S. by the Wall Street Journal.

SCMT has campuses in both West Lafayette and Indianapolis Indiana.  The school of 24 faculty has a vibrant research and teaching culture with over 500 undergraduate students and over 100 graduate students.  Undergraduate programs include degrees in construction management, design and construction integration, and computer graphics.  Students are also able to specialize in healthcare, residential, infrastructure, MEP, and disaster restoration construction.  Graduate programs include an MS in Construction Management Technology, Executive Construction Management (virtual), and a PhD in Technology.  All SCMT students and faculty have the opportunity to participate in study abroad programs, including specific construction related programs. The school resides in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute that recently transformed undergraduate curriculums to incorporate innovative learning environments, strong industry involvement, and team teaching in active learning classrooms.  The school has recently moved into the brand-new Dudley Hall facility with innovative classrooms, Trimble lab, construction research labs, and a new state of the art construction learning lab.

SCMT also prides itself on its strong industry partnerships through an active Construction Advisory Council of over 100 committed companies representing all facets of construction. Each semester SCMT hosts a construction specific career fair with over 200 companies.  Students have a 99% placement rate for internships and full-time employment.  Faculty have the opportunity for faculty externships through these partnerships.
