Assistant Professor of Construction Management

Job Summary: 
The School of Construction and Design at the University of Southern Mississippi seeks applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek candidates who are student-centered, possess construction industry experience, innovative, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. Candidates with the ability to teach a broad range of fundamental construction courses including, but not limited to, AutoCAD, MEP, Estimating, Scheduling, Safety, and Senior Capstone are encouraged to apply. The expected start date will be August 2024.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  

  1. Teach assigned courses.
  2.  Conduct research that supports the construction industry and/or construction education.
  3.  Participate in service opportunities within the School, College, University, and community.
  4.  Maintain regular office hours.
  5.  Provide end of semester course assessment data.
  6.  Actively participate in Industry Advisory Council (IAC) activities, School functions and student-related organization activities.
  7.  Attend faculty meetings.
  8.  Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 
A terminal degree within the disciplines of Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework are required of applicants. A demonstrated ability to engage in effective teaching in both a traditional classroom and online setting. Excellent written and spoken English skills.

Preferred Qualifications:  
Professional registration/licensure (DBIA, PE, AIA, LEED, PMP, JD, etc.). Significant construction industry experience. Experience developing and delivering construction management courses in classroom and online environments. Demonstrated proficiency in software relevant to the construction industry such as AutoCAD, BIM, BlueBeam, Primavera P6, etc. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
