The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (IAFSE) at Arizona State University (ASU) and the Del E. Webb School of Construction (DEWSC) within the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) seek applicants for an assistant teaching professor in the fields of construction management and technology or construction engineering. The School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE), one of the eight Fulton Schools, houses a vibrant construction management and technology and construction engineering research and teaching community, comprising a group of faculty members who are leaders in all aspects of construction. 

Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in construction, such as project management, planning/preconstruction, estimating, scheduling, electrical and/or mechanical construction, and construction methods and materials. The individual will be expected to develop and deliver online courses, in addition to traditional in-person courses. Other responsibilities include advising student organizations and competition teams, supervising undergraduate projects, participating in course and program assessment, and engaging with local industry and professional associations to advance student success and program effectiveness. This position is non-tenure track. It is anticipated that the contract will be renewed annually subject to satisfactory performance and university needs.

Professional engineering licensure or the ability to obtain registration in a timely manner is desirable. 

Successful candidates will support the mission of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and are expected to advance instructional endeavors both within and beyond the Fulton Schools. The selected candidate will be associated with the Del E. Webb School of Construction within the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. SSEBE offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Civil, Environmental, Sustainable, and Construction Engineering, and in Construction Management and Technology.  SSEBE has 60 faculty members, 1450 undergraduate and 750 graduate students, and generates annual research expenditures of nearly $30 million per year. 

Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. The anticipated start date is August 2024, but accommodations can be made for the selected candidate. The selected candidate will be expected to advance construction management or construction engineering education, demonstrate a commitment to pedagogical innovation, and help maintain and expand the Del E. Webb School of Construction’s industry partnerships to advance student organizations and success.  In addition to building strong collaborations with existing faculty within the DEWSC, the candidate will be expected to build strong collaborations with other groups in SSEBE as well as entities within IAFSE and across ASU. 

Required Qualifications 

• Minimum of a Master’s or PhD degree in construction management, construction engineering, civil engineering, architectural engineering, or a closely related area 
• Two or more years of construction industry experience 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and aptitude for collaboration and teambuilding 

Desired Qualifications 

• Teaching experience in an undergraduate construction management or engineering program 
• Teaching experience in professional training, seminars, peer-groups, and other non-traditional educational offerings 
• Five or more years of construction industry experience 
• Experience in working with students, student clubs, and student competitions 
• Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning 
• Professional industry certification such as professional engineer, LEED AP, Certified Professional Constructor, or similar 
• Experience in electrical and/or mechanical construction 
• Expertise and ability to teach across a broad range of construction courses
