Instructor of Construction Management 

The Construction Management (CM) program at Indiana State University invites candidates to apply for a position of instructor – 10-month, multi-year contract. The CM program is housed in the Bailey College of Engineering & Technology within the Department of Built Environment (BE). The department was established in 2010 and is the home of four undergraduate programs: Architectural Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Interior Architecture Design, and Safety Management, as well as the Occupational Safety Management MS. The CM program, accredited through the America Council of Construction Education (ACCE), has been graduating students since 1976. It combines education and experience in both technical and managerial skills to prepare students for leadership roles in the construction profession. Laboratory and work experience supplement classroom lectures to provide practical and useful skills. 
 

Position Description 

The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching in foundational topics of construction, pre-construction, project development, and management. Candidate will contribute to continuing program development, collaborate with colleagues, and engage with students to promote curriculum in construction management. This individual will teach related topics in an intensely active, outcomes-based learning environment in which innovative pedagogy, timely curriculum, creative assignments, and excellence in student work is paramount. Continuous improvement of course materials in on-campus sections must be replicated through Indiana State University’s highly regarded online program. 

Essential responsibilities include: 

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching  
  • Developing curriculum  
  • Tracking outcome assessment 
  • Participating in the re-accreditation process 

Optional, but preferred responsibilities include: 

  • Serving on internal and external committees 
  • Recruiting students 
  • Advising students 
  • Engaging with industry partners 

 
Qualifications 

The successful candidate will have a master's degree in construction management or a closely related field and three years of experience in the domestic United States or Canada in a construction-related industry with some teaching experience. Additional experience in horizontal construction is desirable. Candidates also should demonstrate communication skills in written and spoken English.
